The everfresh crew have been doing some serious work around town lately – but I’ve been lacking in keeping up with it, or even checking their website. Anyway, there’s some amount of updates going on over there with some good content, check it out.

I also spotted this video below on there, I’d head about some bath that was painted for some beer.. turns out it was Phibs.

This documentary aired a few months back on ABC. It’s worth the watch.

Photography and the broken hearted.

Posted in Oh the random thought on November 18, 2009 by earthdiedscreaming

I used to take photos. Lot’s of photo’s.

I probably wasn’t what might be described as a great photographer, but I didn’t wonder around aimlessly snapping pictures of nothing and passing them off as “art, creative, thought provoking..etc”.
I sold my entire set up almost a year ago. I sometimes miss it. Sometimes, I don’t at all. Sometimes I come across whilst scoping the net, these ‘arty farty photographer types’ and their folios – passing themselves off as “Professional photographers” and it just makes me wonder.

If you buy one of these stock tiny itty bitty dslr cameras you can now buy for a couple-a-hundred-bucks, does that make you a photographer?
I did read one time the quote; “It’s not the camera that makes a photo, it’s the photographer.” Implying that the finished product of a developed photo, be a good photo. So I guess one of these itty-bitty dslr’s isn’t the answer here.. or is it?

It just seems to me, now this is just a random thought at 1am, that photography has got to a point where it is so easy to purchase a digital camera and take a cheap shitty photo of whatever, title it something cute, (leaving aside the digital camera “photographer-using-a-mobile-phone-and-exhibiting-their-work”) spread it widely over the internet and becoming some sort of featured photographer on some of these “large” art blogs? .. How did this happen, or has it always been so.. how can I say it without offending some of the more, talented, photographers out there? .. Shit, perhaps? .. Shit. I think that definesĀ  it quote significantly to be honest.

It just seems these days, the more and more I pay attention to it, someone can run on out to their garden in their yard with their what have you, brand spankin’ new (mobile phone?) dslr, snap a photo of a tree with the sky behind it, run back inside, upload it onto the net and all of a sudden.. STOP THE PRESS!! WE HAVE A NEW FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER.. LOOK AT THE WORLD IN A DIFFERENT WAY, LEAVES IN A TREE!!!!!!

Perhaps that’s a little too harsh.. I’m sure that with the way TECHNOLOGY is going, the art world (in a digital sense) has to follow somehow, right? ..

Maybe I could also start ranting on about how the pencil and paintbrush traditional methods are now digital based and the tradition of messy studio’s, late nights, paint brushes and paint-on-ya-face are dead gone? .. Well, I don’t think that’s going to happen for a long time (except for the fact that most graphic designers (and other fields related) have moved away from traditional methods) but photography seems to have gone that way! .. but why? Is it laziness? .. Perhaps.

Just kind of breaks my heart a little bit when I come across someone who is quote obviously a hobby snapper, snapping some pics for whatever reason.. when there’s some really great, great, GREAT shit out there to be looking at.. dedicated photographers.. But then again, maybe these kids are just taking advantage of the digital/technological age and trying to get some sort of attention – maybe one day I’ll come across these same kids and they’d have advanced to a professional level with a really great set up – maybe even shooting and producing throught traditional techniques.. and by traditional.. I mean dark rooms, not Photoshop.

Homeward bound; Collingwood on the horizon.

Posted in Oh the random thought on November 15, 2009 by earthdiedscreaming

We moved back into my old place in Collingwood. That endeavor is almost over, some more boxes and other bits and pieces from the other house and it’ll be over. Except for the part where we have an entire studio to pack up and move, into a new studio which we’ve yet to find. Urgghhh.. Feels like it’s never going to end.

But, on the bright-side of things, we’re pretty much out of our old place. Woo.
